Welcome to the Canal Side

Hey All – 

Welcome to the canal side. Grab one of our blankets, throw your favorite ice cold beverage into one of our insulated tumblers, and let’s catch up. 

First, we did it – We launched our new website, a place where you can come and purchase Pittsford Outfitters products directly! 

Up until now each and every item we sold online was exclusively available at Amazon. Things were great there, but not quite as civilized (or expressive) as we thought they should be… So, much like Pittsford NY itself did 200 years ago, we felt like it was time to move on, break away from the northern fields and marketplace jungles and settle our own little part of the world here on Pittsford.com.

So here we are today – setting up shop all alone in the wilderness, but with a little bit of history and experience behind us, not to mention some awesome blankets to keep us warm, bottles to keep our beverages cold, and a bag or two to hold all our stuff and keep it dry. Exciting times, and we can’t wait to see where it goes. 

We’re also thrilled to announce the launch of what we call our ‘Bun Up’ Initiative: A commitment to do our part to ensure that all girls - and not just those from affluent suburbs or schools with great athletic programs – have the opportunity to experience and grow through being on a team, playing with others, and being outside.

We’re doing this by committing to donate a percentage of the revenue from each and every item that we sell - whether here online, in person, or through any other channel - to help support girls in sports. 

This initiative runs deep in our DNA and is personal – I can’t express to you how much I feel that being on a team has helped my girls grow and become the amazing young women they are today. On the flip side, I also recognize just how blessed we are that we are able to provide them with opportunities that many girls do not have access too, but should. And I would like to help change that.

Our commitment is to donate a percentage of sales (& not just profit) to organizations that help make it possible for more girls to participate in sports, to high school teams and youth organizations directly, or even just to help one girl join a team and play a sport she might not otherwise be able to. Because being a part of a team will result in a fuller, more well rounded, compassionate, and confident woman positioned for success later in life. Finally, this is also the inaugural edition of the Canal Side Journal… A place where we’re going to try, every now and then, to let you know what’s going on with our company, it’s products, it’s people, and maybe some other interesting things. 

Why the Canal Side Journal? To me, the canal is the heart of the village – snaking it’s way through the town, it adds a nautical influence to the village (& our products by extension) along with so much beauty and character.

It also serves as a great place to catch up with friends, go for a run, or just to be near to help clear your mind. Whether you’re grabbing a bite to eat or a drink at one of the restaurants and bars that dot it’s shore, or sitting on a blanket and having a picnic in one of the parks that do the same, it’s beauty and steadfastness bring a sense of calm and history that is unique today. 

That sense of place seems like the perfect environment to write in, to keep a journal of this journey that is our small business and talk about where we’ve been, what we’re doing, and what’s to come.

Anyway, there’s lots more we could talk about – we’ve got a handful of new products coming in the next month or two for the holiday season and we’re kicking around the idea of maybe taking this show on the road to a handful of lacrosse, field hockey, and rowing events – but we’ll save those for another day.

It’s a time for new beginnings - Summer’s ending, we’ve got a new site, the leaves are changing, new products are almost here, fall ball is just getting started, and we’re excited for what’s to come… But that’s all for tomorrow. Today - well, today seems like the perfect time to go outside. And play. And then repeat; tomorrow, and everyday after that.
